1970's: D.G. Coleman, Inc. was originally founded as "Coleman Trucking" by Dan and Kathy Coleman in January 1972. Dan purchased his first truck that was a 1968 Mack
cab over. At that time, the trucking industry was heavliy regulated, so the truck was leased on to Ruan Transport Corporation. Coleman Trucking through Ruan Transport hauled a wide variety of products including Liquid Petroleum Products, Chemicals, and various Hazardous materials until 1978 when Ruan Transport ceased operations in Colorado; forcing Coleman Trucking to venture a new industry. Shortly after departing Ruan, Coleman Trucking began hauling construction materials such as sand and gravel.
1980's: The separation from Ruan Transport did not last for long; the customer's of Ruan demanded to have the service of Coleman Trucking back. Yet again, Coleman Trucking partnered with Ruan Transport. While Dan was managing the Colorado business for Ruan, he was also expanding his own trucking company. On January 26, 1981, Coleman Trucking became D.G. Coleman, Inc. Throughout the decade, the company sustained rapid growth and quickly outgrew the rented space of Ruan Transport's Commerce City terminal, which then lead Dan to purchase his own facility in Denver, CO.
1990's: Once D.G. Coleman started operations out of the self-owned facility, the fleet began to expand. In the early 90's, the company was operating eight trucks. Throughout the 90's, the D.G. Coleman company grew to a twenty truck fleet, which soon would lead to the purchase of a new facility.
2000's: On May 23, 2003, D.G. Coleman, Inc. was served the opportunity to purchase the property owned by Ruan Transport in Commerce City, CO- the same property where Dan Coleman first started working with Ruan in 1972. After sustaining a large growth in facility size, D.G. Coleman continued to expand the fleet size to about 40 tractors in 2004. In the preceeding year, Ruan Transport and D.G. Coleman reached an agreement for Coleman to purchase another division of Ruan known as Single Source Transportation that operated dry bulk trailers. D.G. Coleman acquired 55 more tractors from Ruan and took over the operation through Ruan operating out of the D.G. Coleman Commerce City, CO location.
TODAY: D.G. Coleman acquired the final piece of Ruan business in Colorado and now fully operates under our own authority. We serve the entire Colorado market, parts of the Nebraska market and dry van freight amongst the 48 states. We are currently operating on the same property that Dan Coleman first began work in the trucking industry and maintain over 150 pieces of company owned equipment. The company is still privately owned by the Coleman family and is operated by three generations of the family. Dan Coleman still serves as the President of the Company, and Kathy Coleman serves as the Vice President of the Company.
